I just received your book and have read it over the weekend - I have been quite relieved to find that my training schedule is on track with yours - I only stared running 12 months ago - I need all the help I can get as I am sort of making it up as I go along. Thanks!

Subject: Your book
Hi Michael,
I got your book some time ago and I thought I would let you know what I thought of it... I noticed your training schedule is very similar to the one set up by my coach Jack Pilla. Frankly, I had to question him about what seemed like low mileage. I had incorrectly assumed I'd have to put in a lot more miles to do an ultra run. I'm doing 2 days of spinning (a tough group because its all men who are training for Ironman) plus 2 sessions of weights. I don't do a lot of yoga but I belly dance 2 x a week and stretch (prob not as much as I should).
So anyway that seems to be pretty similar to what you are saying.
I found your book to be very concise and not overly sentimental. I like the details on each leg. I haven't got anything to compare it to but I'm going to scrutinize them better as the race approaches because you've obviously "been there done that".
I also like how you stress nutrition. I know plently of rec athletes who focus a lot more on training than nutrition and of course this isn't going to work. I've read a lot about Scott Jurek's diet and I've incorporated some of those components esp. maca powder which I personally feel has helped me a lot.
I'm thinking I will prob sign up for a training camp since I live only 1 1/2 hrs away and it probably won't hurt me. Obviously I'm pretty familiar with this terrain since I grew up here and spent a lot of time in the bush. I've horse logged, sheep grazed you name it. But I've never done an ultra race so I thought it might be a good overview. Plus I'm hoping Tracy Garneau is leading it again.
So thank you for the book and hopefully both of our runs this summer are successful. I'll be interested to here how the sinister run goes. Take care,
Dawneen

I've been meaning to tell you I've finished the book, a while ago. Great practical ideas and I liked the leg specific notes, made me feel like I could visualize parts of the run.

Re: Your Death Race Story and book
Michael, your book arrived today; when I got home this evening I reread your story then read it to my wife; I am hoping she will decide to be my support crew. I then scanned the book and started gleaning tidbits of useful information. When I sign off, I am going to read all of it. Cannot sleep. I just got infected again!
